Core concepts

Rate limits

Limits apply per API key. Watch the RateLimit headers and back off on 429.

Applies to

v2

Response headers
HTTP/1.1 429 Too Many Requests
RateLimit-Limit: 100
RateLimit-Remaining: 0
RateLimit-Reset: 12
Retry-After: 12

How limits work

Each API key gets a request budget per rolling window, plus a separate budget for sends per second. Every response includes RateLimit-Limit, RateLimit-Remaining and RateLimit-Reset so you can slow down before you hit the limit.

Handling 429

When you get 429 Too Many Requests, wait for the number of seconds in Retry-After and try again. The SDKs do this for you. For bulk sends, use the batch endpoint instead of many single requests.
